RESIDUAL STRESSES AND THEIR RELIEF
Residual stresses are stresses present in the parts internally, due to uncontrolled temperature gradients and cyclic loads during operation, these stresses or strains will remain in the parts or components even when the applied loads are eliminated.
Residual stresses originated by welding are produced as a consequence of the different expansions and contractions generated by local heating of the material, by the dimensional changes induced by the micro structural transformations that occur.
